Blast From the Past

College

My first public performance was in my freshman year of college at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, in 1970.  Beginning with my very first day at school, and continuing throughout my years there, I busked (performed for the public, on the sidewalk).

My first coffeehouse performance (in a place called The Grotto) took place during those first few weeks of my freshman year.  I played at that coffeehouse many times after that, and eventually became one of the managers.  Additionally, somewhere in my undergraduate years (don’t recall exactly when) I was cast as a street minstrel, playing my guitar and singing in a street scene in Bertolt Brecht’s play Galileo.  That was my first experience playing before a large audience.

Post-College

In the mid-1970s I performed briefly on a local Salisbury, Maryland, TV station for a charity event
